Apple to buy Disney?

There are some rumors on Internet that Apple might make an attempt to buy the Walt Disney Co. The rumors started off in Barron’s, the Dow Jones weekly magazine, by Mark Veverka where is noted that Apple now boasts a stock-market value of more than $60 billion — $10 billion more than Disney’s, and that when Disney completes its acquisition of Pixar, Steve Jobs, who heads both Pixar and Apple, will become Disney’s largest shareholder. Moreover, several analysts considers that Disney will soon develop a movie downloading service for its video iPods, which are expected to sport larger screens in their next evolution.

‘Crash’ wins best picture at NAACP Image Awards

The Oscar-nominated film Crash was named best picture by the NAACP at its 37th annual Image Awards on Saturday. The awards show honours the achievements of African Americans in film, television and music. Other winners included ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy for television drama, and the UPN comedy Everybody Hates Chris for outstanding comedy series.

Crash was given the Image Award for outstanding motion picture, beating out nominees Hustle & Flow, Coach Carter, Hitch and Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Oscar-nominee Terence Howard also received a best supporting actor award for his performance in the film.

Alicia Keys, Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey were also among Image Awards Winners.

Costume Designers Guild Awards Winners

Memoirs of a Geisha costume director Colleen Atwood was twice honored during the eighth annual Costume Designers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, winning the period film costume design award for Memoirs and was presented with the Lacoste Spotlight in Film Award Saturday night, reported Daily Variety.

Among other winners were also Danny Glicker who won the contemporary film costume design prize for Transamerica and Isis Mussenden won in the fantasy film category for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

HBO’s Six Feet Under designer Jill Ohanneson took the prize in the contemporary television category while HBO’s Rome designer April Ferry won in the period/fantasy category. Designer Eduardo Castro won in the TV movie/miniseries category for CBS’ Elvis.
