
According to the reports, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” leads nominees for the 2005-2006 Tony awards with 13 nods, including for acting alone, plus best musical, director and choreographer. On the other hand “The Color Purple,” is next on the list, based on Alice Walker’s novel and co-produced by Oprah Winfrey, received 11 nominations, including top musical and leading actress for LaChanze, followed by The Pajama Game with 9 nods.
This year a special award will be given to Sarah Jones for her celebrated solo show, Bridge & Tunnel. It was also decided that in its first year for Best Replacement Actor award.
Tony awards will take place on June 11th in a ceremony held at Radio City Music Hall from 8-11pm and CBS will broadcast the evening.
